The trail itself is not technical, however, it is an incline the whole way and may be a bit strenuous if you're not accustom to steep elevation gain. To get to the top it will require scrambling over rock which can be challenging to come down. There are steep drop offs near the top. Weather can be unpredictable so check conditions. If you do go the views are amazing!!!!!
Serious obstacles, no but it is steep. Alot of elevation is gained in the short hike up to the top which makes it a pretty rigorous.
The serious obstacle is it being so steep, so if you want to carry a 4 year old 1.6 miles up a steel hill then so be it. I personally would not bring anyone under the age of 8 on a hike like this.
We brought a 4 year old on a hike up there this week! Depends on how resilient your kid is. It took us an hour and a half to hike the 1.6 miles to the top. We had to stop and rest a few times but he did just fine.
For a hiker this is pretty easy and I have seen plenty of young kids on it. However if your idea of a serious walk is 30 minutes in the park, could be a challenge. The views of Rainier are stunning.
