Proofs of address has to be something like a bill or official mail, it cannot be junk mail. It's up to the DMV personell to accept your documents, so if you get someone that is "By The Book" you want to make sure you have everything and it's right. Also the DMV requires an appointment, you can do that on their website.
You will need 2 proofs of address, birth certificate, proof of name change if applicable and social security card. You can go to www.scdmv.com and view the list of acceptable documents.
