There is a part you can hike down to, just below the falls, with the ropes that are there. You can follow it down the river a little bit. And get a view of the double falls. But it's a little advanced, if your not a rock climber.
Not that I remember. The walk to the falls is relatively short.
None at Mingo. However, about 15 minutes away in Bryson City is a back entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain Park called Deep Creek. There is a great hiking trail there with up to three waterfalls (if you want to do the full 5.0 mile loop). Shorter hikes to other falls. None as spectacular as Mingo, but a really nice hike!!
