They are fm stations. If you take an old car with am radio only, you will need a portable radio or can maybe hear from the other cars nearby
There are so many people playing the radio station at the same time you barely even need your own. Having your own radio just adds to the movie

You can use either the car radio or speakers ! station for either one of the radios you're using you can just go to that station
