The train ride is a scenic restored steam engine and cars. When we went last month, the "first" car was open air, and the other two were not. These are are 1890s vintage, or there about, and enclosed car have windows and plenty of air. The train changes direction at the end of the line so first/last doesn't really apply. There is also a pretty good walking and biking path along the tracks and the train stopped once to allow premium riders off for an included lunch at Capitan Bill's (I think that's what the restaurant was called). Ride is about 45 minutes note including the lunch. Recommend.
This is not a riding railroad. It is a railroad trail. Actually all the tracks have been removed in the state of Maryland has been a fantastic job putting in sections of paved the area and crushed stone as well as maintaining the trail for walking, bicycling and horseback riding. If you want to ride a railroad, you will need to go up to Hanover junction Pennsylvania, which is the same railroad line that runs through Pennsylvania. They have a old fashioned coal steam locomotive that they run a few times a year. The trail is wider in Pennsylvania and the railroad line, at least one of the lines is still active there. But if you want to go on a walk, a bike ride, etc then the nicest part of the trail is clearly in maryland. Pennsylvania has some very historic sections of the trail such as one of the very first railroad tunnels in the nation. This rail line connects York Pennsylvania to Baltimore, but I believe it is only restored to the suburbs of baltimore, not into the city of Baltimore
