Each season has its benefits. Summer is super hot, but if you're into sunrise hikes, this is the time to do them. October-November is perfect for those who don't like hiking in the sweltering heat, and December could give you breathtaking views of Zion's cliffs covered by freshly fallen snow. Best month is hard to answer because they are all great for hikes and views. Keep in mind that fall tends to be really busy, so if avoiding crowds is what you're after, those won't be ideal months for you.
I would say probably April or May. It was very hot around 105 when I was there, though it was amazingly beautiful.
