Do you need to make an appointment for returns or can you walk in?

You can walk in, but you're better off timewise by scheduling an appointment.

It is strongly recommended during these times to make process quicker and lesser of a wait for the customer. Without an appointment you will still get assistance, of course, but there will be that line to stand in and wait time is unknown. That depends on the store and time you visit the store. Also I suggest calling the store and asking a live person(not just their automated message) and ask the new store hours because many store, if not all, have earlier closing times now.
