The cheaper of your options is directly across from the Academy and is the Holiday Inn. It's comfortable, has a restaurant and bar, sometimes hosts jazz, and is appointed nicely. Your other two options are the Virginian- an upscale boutique a few blocks away, and a no tell motel about 13 blocks away. There are also multiple well appointed and reasonable airbnbs in the downtown district and a few Bed and Breakfasts in the historic neighbourhoods surrounding downtown.
The Holiday Inn is across the street. It's not bad!!
