I took the first tour that was available since 2020, so they were just getting back into things. The tour took about half an hour and was informative. However, it seems like it had been updated with a political agenda. There was an out of place blurb about native peoples at the beginning and digs at slavery and peoples throughout. Please leave the political views alone and just tell me how things were. I did like that the tour person carried photos as a visual aid. One funny thing was she said some people died of consumption, saying it seems they had eaten too much. Ha, ha. Consumption was tuberculosis. I think her knowledge was shallow, but as I said, that was the first tour since the pandemic started in 2020. A few days later, the tour’s participants were contacted and warned that the museum’s shopkeeper, who went on the tour with everyone, tested positive for COVID-19 the day after the tour. Ouch. In all, the informational content and length are what you would want and expect in a tour, political views aside. I was disappointed this particular tour did not include going through the house.

Point of Honor is a beautiful Federal home built in 1815 by Dr Cabell who was a physician to Patrick Henry. The tour was excellent and they have done a fabulous job restoring the home. Great view of the James River from the second story. …

Okay, so you have visited the plantations of Virginia planters, but what about the home of the tabacco shipper? Point of Honor let's you know that the shippers made a really good living, too. This home is spectacular! The guide was knowledgeable and well-spoken. A must-see in Lynchburg!

Came to their fall festival today, had a great time, the grounds are beautiful and the exterior of the home looks great, unfortunately the wait for a tour was a little longer than I would have hoped but I'll definitely come back for a tour! The vendors and activities today we're really family friendly. I'm excited to return!

Just an old house. Only if you have time. So much more to do and see.
There have been many owners since its completion in 1816, but most notably was the original owner, Dr. George Cabell. The tours run $6 for adults, $3 for children over 6 years old.
