Ethan is correct. Network Engineer here. Hotspot is usually for mobile data, now a WiFi access point is your standard wifi router. That all depends on your internet speeds at home your download versus your upload how many devices you have on Wi-Fi versus things that are hardwired...
If you're looking for a mobile hotspot, a lot of that has to do with the carrier (price and fast data). I use verizon's jetpack with 15gb of data. That's based more on the fact that we use verizon for our wireless needs than on the hotspot itself. If you're looking for in home wifi that's a different issue.
