We got a military discount and that helped out a lot!
It can be done very affordably if planned correctly. If you book at least 60 days in advance you can save upti 50% off your stay. You have access to the entire lodge (water park passes included!) open to close the day of arrival and departure. We usually stay one night and its plenty of time to soak up all the fun! Tons of restaurants close by so you can avoid the high priced restaurants in the resort. And if you want to experience the other amenities they offer the paw passes are you best bet and 1 can easily be shared between 2 kiddos (cuz thats were it gets pricey)
Great Wolf can be pricy if you choose to. We stayed for a night with 3 kids and stayed in a 2 room suite. We also had the top package for each of the kids for 100 each and prepaid for 3 meal's at the restaurant. All in, we were about $1k for the trip. I'd we wanted to, we could have spent half that and still had fun.
