Bill is right. In the past two years a few state parks in the southeast including Tyler and Nockamixon have had to remove ash trees due to the infestation of emerald ash borer.
There is logging going on. Due to widespread emerald ash borer infestation in the area, the choice was made to sell affected trees while they could generate revenue for the park rather than wait until they became a danger which would then need to be removed at substantial cost. I'm told the logging will primarily take place around the mansion and associated walking trails, picnic areas, and other heavily travelled places.
I was taken aback with the tree felling. Its not just near the mansion but across the park.
I think some of these trees were recently damaged due to recent extreme weather conditions
