It is absolutely acceptable to bring in your own food and drink. Animals cannot be fed anything other than the foid they sell. We bought there foid. It was $3 a cup. A little pricey but it helps subsidize the cost of the zoo so really it's reasonable. My family of 3 bought 2 cups worth. It was more than enough.
Yes you can take your own food and and have picnics there are picnic tables and little shelters with picnic tables they also reserved catered birthday parties with little animal shows for the kids.
