what does the ticket cover, all exhibits except as noted? and are all exhibits a "tour" that we should book ahead?

The entrance ticket covers most exhibits. There are a few which charge an additional fee, such as the virtual reality lab, and the Pixar Animation show. Last week, the VR lab was charging $8 per child and $9 per adult. I'm sure the content of the other 'extra' feature areas will change from time to time, and ticket prices may also change. They seem to have set start times for most of these areas, and there must be a limit to the number of people they can handle with each show/feature. If you have a large group, you may want to call it check the website for scheduling. Most of the standard exhibits need no real tour to enjoy, but if you are taking a number of children and want to make it a real learning experience, you should contact them ahead of time to see if they can provide a member of their staff whose focus is on that area.

Their website details what the tickets cover. They have different exhibits at different times so your best bet is to check on the website. https://www.dmns.org/visit/pricing-and-discounts/

Not all exhibits require a special fee or entry. Best to check the website
