I have never had an issue walking this area at night. Yes, there are homeless folks in the area, but they are harmless for the most part. As always though, when in public be aware of your surroundings...
Short walk through main streets. Totally safe. People everywhere. There is a valet service on that corner
I've never been down there for 4 day weekend but I have been several times for Akon and people were always walking to and from the convention center and hotels. I feel safe, just be smart, stay in well lit areas and be together.
Area should be safe. It was a very touristy area.
