If you like rocks.... Gorgeous setting and interesting collection. Pretty to wander thru, great gift shop, a lot of picnic tables outside for eating lunch or for a birthday celebration.

I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed my visit. It's a small place, but chock full of interesting things (including the house itself!). Staff was very friendly too. A true hidden gem if you will ;)

I ABSOLUTELY Loved it!!! If you enjoy rocks and crystals and petrified wood, you must go. I am little obsessed with my crystals and wish I had made time to go sooner... All of the specimens here were amazing. The info that goes along with them..fascinating. At first I felt a little guilty about going alone, but nobody I know has my deep fascination and I know it would have been frustrating had I needed to rush because of bored friends/family. If you have youngsters that enjoy rocks, take them. It is very family friendly with special things to do to keep them interested and learning. The grounds are beautiful. Take a picnic on a lovely spring day!!! I left knowing so much more than I did before and I got to see the biggest thunder egg ever!!! The gift shop was stocked with specimens, games, jewelry and other cool things that you may be able to order online, but why when you can get them right there!

Beautiful mid century house with all the charm turned into a museum with Rocks, Minerals, Fossils, gem stones and Petrified Wood. Super kid friendly and even encouraged to touch and climb on things unless there is a sign saying not to. Admission included a rock from the rock pile. There are walking paths on the grounds and we saw 3 elk, it is next to a natural area. Regular admission is $12 and worth it. There is a discount for people who have SNAP, only $3. Online reservation was suggested, we made one, it was not crowded and covid safety was on point

Yes, I took some awesome photos there. I especially enjoyed the dark room where the rocks were glowing and reflected different spectra of light.
We are closed weekday mornings so that we can have school field trips in the mornings. We see about 10,000 school children on field trips and sometimes have 120 kids in the building so it gets too crowded to open to the public. We are open Wednesday through Friday 1:00 to 5:00 and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 5:00.
Call there and ask for Dylan. I usually just buy from him, but he would be the one to talk to. Let me know if its a no go there as I do buy rock.
Since they are closed on all Mondays I would guess they aren't open.
I don't know if they by rocks. I went with a strange volcanic rock. When I offered it to them they didn't want it.
They do have nights where you can bring a mystery rock and they can identify it for you but I dont know about the having it sliced part.
Here is the best way to find out.....enjoy...they are kool! https://ricenorthwestmuseum.org/
Contact the museum directly or check the website.
Best to contact the office direct.
Parts are free. I think it was $12 for the part that costs.
From their website: Children (4 & under): FREE Adults: $12.00 Seniors (60+): $10.00 Veterans and active military: $8.00 Students (5-17): $8.00
Yeah its a semi-remote location. I would highly doubt a close stop.
Thay are open to the public. Students $8, adults $12. If you had a group of home schoolers... You might try calling. The guided tours for school groups are pretty good.
Rice museum has some or you can go to your local mall if they have a science and discovery store, they have small amounts. Also some rock quarry places with a small shop. But Rice Museum for sure.
And it's worth every cent. Was just planning another trip back.
W ~ F 1pm > 5pm. Sat & Sunday > 10 am ~ 5pm Monday and Tuesday close.
Hillsboro has several hotels and restaurants. That area is high-tech hosting many large corporations and sometimes called the "Silicon Forest".
Not sure if you can send them a picture but they have told me that i can bring the rocks/stones in and they will check them out for me and help me identify what kind of stone it is. 😊 Hope that helps
