Local office number is not given online but an automated message on the main number tells you to call your local office for appointment. So how do you call the local office? Also, SS is relying on most people using the internet to deal with their account or issues. There are two problems with that. First, not everyone uses the internet or owns a computer (and using a cell phone to access websites is often worse than doing taxes - I'd rather get a root canal without anesthesia), and the website does not allow you to do everything needed. So if you're in need of doing something special or rare and/or don't or can't go online you might have to wait hours, days, or even weeks before getting a human to help you.
