Courtyard by Marriott Bloomington Normal

This is a basic Courtyard built sometime in the 90’s. The bistro appeared to be closed when we checked in; didn’t look very open in the morning either. The pool needs a good deep clean. Rooms are clean and fresh but the hallways looked tired.

Common areas are not super clean and not updated. In my room the floor had loose boards. Bathroom wasn’t that clean. Sliding door handle falling off. A/C unit full of droppings. Sides had not been cleaned in a while either. I went to the front desk and told me it couldn’t be addressed until first thing the next morning, not that it really mattered because I was leaving. Carpet had stains. I ran out of there super quickly so I didn’t look around at the rest but I’m sure the bed was a mess as someone else’s bed had hair and bugs in theirs.

First thing you notice when you walk in the door is a clean and decorated lobby. This immediately points to the appearance of good management and staff. Second thing you notice is cleanliness. Third thing you notice is the friendly staff wandering around diligently addressing guests needs. There are 750 thousand hotels in Bloomington Normal. I called a dozen of them trying to find the perfect venue for my event. Then I found this one. The communication start to finish was clear and concise. Tonight was perfect and I cannot thank the team here enough!

The trend with marriott properties I've stayed at this year (from higher end to basic properties) has been disappointing, and the benefits of being loyal seem to be declining took, at least for this platinum member, and this hotel is no exception. Like most courtyards, the amenities are limited and the perks for loyal Marriott guests are minimal, but at least the room was mostly comfortable and at having a small fridge and microwave at this property was convenient. The room was mostly clean except for what might be a faint lingering smell of smoke likely from a past guest and the shower needed some better cleaning around the base of the glass door due to the mildew I could see. I at least was given a 2pm check out without any hesitation (my 4pm guaranteed check out being one of my favorite perks that I often gets me annoyed looks from the staff when I request it)
