Hi Julius, thanks for asking! To open a savings account with us, you must be eligible for membership. It’s easy to check your eligibility—simply ask a representative at your local branch to check your eligibility or contact the Member Service Center. If you are eligible, you can open an account at that time. Please have a government issued ID (such as a driver’s license/state ID card, military ID, passport, etc.) and a secondary form of ID (such as a student ID, credit/debit card, employee ID, etc.) available. We offer two types of savings accounts, Share Savings and Premium Savings. Share Savings accounts allow you to earn stable dividends independent of money market conditions for a steady rate of return. Premium Savings accounts provide a higher rate of return on balances of $10,000 or more. For both accounts, you pay no maintenance fee as long as the balance remains above $50—for members less than 26 years old this minimum balance is $5 for Share Savings accounts. You can also learn more about our savings accounts, current rates, and fees at alaskausa.org/share/savings.asp.
