Don't be even a little late to your appointment! They'll be rude and not help you. I finally got fed up and had to take my tires elsewhere. Poor customer service.

NASCAR - 4 tires changed in 11-15 seconds Costco - 4 tires rotated in 1hr and 19min I know it’s apple to oranges. But over an hour to move around 4 tires? Counting all the hours I sit at the tire center for rotations, I’m not sure the money I saved was worth it.

Took my car over New Years Eve after my tires got slashed right in front of my home. I tell them I'm worried about leaving my car overnight in their parking lot for that reason, and I'm glad they say they can take care of it today. They say they'll call me when it's done, maybe around 7, and they ask for my phone number, which the guy there working says "ah, got it right here on this paper." Cool... I go home. It's getting close to 7, so we head over there thinking they'll be done soon, and when we get there, my car has new tires and is just sitting in front of the tire center, but everything's closed--like, the tire center and the main building--so I can't get my keys back. Apparently, they closed early for NYE. Anyway, I had to leave my car there overnight because I didn't have a spare key and wasn't able to get one the night of New Years Eve. This is not a safe place to leave a car overnight, and for someone who just had their tires slashed, I found it especially stressful. They were also closed the next day, so had I not been able to get ahold of my car keys Saturday morning, my lil' ol' car would be sitting there all Saturday day and night. I finally went to get my keys back Sunday, and I basically had to beg for an apology. They were adamant they didn't screw up, but I trusted them, and they fell through for me. They said they called the number, but the number they had is not the one I told them. I have no intention as of now of ever returning to the Costco tire center.

Took 90 minutes for tire rotation (despite having reservation). Then, with 6 people in line waiting with various needs, front desk never called for help. Two staff were in the back talking and noticed the line, and never came to help. Then, upon checking out, everyone's keys were being kept in the bay (rather than with the paperwork up front). So everyone had to walk around to the bay, flag a staff member down, ask for the key--it was an incredibly inefficient, inappropriate, clusterf*** way of doing business.

You don't need one, but I would highly recommend it.
If you order them online and tell the order forms to be sent there, yes that is where they will go and be waiting for you to make an online appointment within 14 days. Just had my tires done, pretty simple and streamlined.
They do not offer brake service, but they offer discounts to other shops through their membership.
Unfortunately Costco doesn't install batteries, but they do sell them. Costco doesn't take credit cards via phone. If your son also is a member you could purchase a Costco cash card and mail it to him. He could then use that to buy the battery.
Some, they can special order them and you can purchase them, but they cannot install.
No they don't, but the have a list of approved vendors that offer costco members a discount.
