I was contacted by the parrot rescue on an ad I had posted out, I have received more help than I could ever ask for, more help than I did ask for; and I could not be more thankful for all of it. The rescue had helped me to get the birds in a more suitable cage, got them toys for stimulation, and really great snacks to help me kick-start getting them into a healthy diet. I have inherited 2 birds and was beside myself on what to do, I had always been interested in having birds, but had never felt it was something that I would ever do, or would ever happen to me- but one night, they just fell into my lap. I have felt so lucky to have them, and to feel confident in the care I am giving them, all because of the rescue! They have really taught me about portions, and the variety of foods birds should have, which was all really new and surprising- but between the PDFS/links on their website, and the hands on help I received, I know I am feeding them good. Not only did my birds come in cages that were too small, rusted, and filthy, but they obviously needed grooming, never having birds before I was unaware of what that really entailed, but Teri not only explained everything to me, but she helped me in getting them all groomed up. She was so amazing with handling the birds (who I can not get to step-up, and bite at me,) had no problem stepping up for her. I was nervous, but Teri was extremely patient with me, as well as the birds. I was amazed with how well Teri trimmed down my amazons beak, she has made it a whole world more comfortable for him, and he has been eating better since seeing her! She can work with the meanest of birds, and make them behave. I can not thank this organization enough for all their help, not only for the birds, but for me as well. They have made my birds comfortable, healthier, and happier, and they have made me feel thousands of times better about the care I am giving the birds.

I found a parrot in my backyard when my dog became interested in something in the corner of the yard. I called my dog off and discovered a small grey parrot. It didn't fly off and was obviously hurt and/or exhausted. Who ya gonna call when you find a parrot in your yard? I called the Humane Society and they recommended NW Parrot Rescue. What a great option for anyone who finds an exotic bird on their property. Christopher was at my house in less than an hour. He quickly and humanely captured the parrot and told me it was a baby grey African parrot. Thank you Christopher! Who knew we had a parrot rescue operation in Clark County Washington! I do now. I wonder if they would take some of the rabbits in my yard? They would also make great pets for veterans!

We are so blessed to be able to adopt Jackson from North West Parrot rescue. Chris was wonderful and so kind. He was very detail oriented, caring; he made sure that Jackson and all of his birds get to go to a good home and are well take care of. Chris gave us a lot of food supplies, treats, and toys for Jackson that will last for a long time. Chris also gave us a blender and camera, parrots cook books, and other documentations, all the tools that we can have to make sure that we will be the best parents possible for Jackson. Jackson is one of the sweetest birds ever that we have ever known. Jackson is very well behaved and smart. We are so happy to be able to take in Jackson as a new member of our family. I am so glad there are still good people in the world like Chris who has been devoting over 30 years of his life to care for these innocent birds and at the same time use the proceeds to help out veterans, who had been through so much. Everyone please adopt a parrot and not purchasing parrot from breeders. These wonderful birds deserve a good home and a happy life.

I want to start this review by stating that we are happy we found out about NW Parrot rescue where we adopted our newest family member Turkey. Chris is very informative and provides you knowledge and very useful resources. He truly cares for his birds and for that, I highly recommend him to any bird lover looking to make a life long commitment to a rescue. Part of my experience included a missed appointment (by me). I have to give credit where it’s due because Chris reached back out and provided guidance and reassurance of what I was getting into, which gave me confidence in supporting this organization. For anyone interested in this organization please do respect all the work that goes in and also appreciate the quality of the birds that deserve another chance at a forever family. If you’re not looking for a bird just yet, please consider donating, I’ve seen good work coming out of this place.

How much would the adoption fee be for a young fairly tamed scarlet macaw??

Snazzy | Aug 17, 2019
Northwest Parrot Rescue | Aug 17, 2019

GREAT Question Snazzy! All Adoption fees do vary between each parrot. Fees are determined by a variety of factors such as age, temperament how much a parrot currently speaks or mimics, including sounds. Depending on the condition of the parrot, and the age of the cage. Plus any accessories like playpens, T Perches, trees and toys should all be considered when you consider adopting any parrot’s adoption fee. But what’s Most important factor, is that the parrot likes you! So, too simply to answer your question. A standard Gage would be a minimum of 50% of retail value, then factor in half the value of the cage, at retail cost, then factor in the toys and accessories, the condition and tameness of the parrot and more. Some rescues even say; if you need to ask about an adoption fee, then you can’t afford to adopt a parrot and care for it properly. Please do your research. We, deliver our parrots & cage and we give a class on each parrot. Thanks for Asking!

How many parrots do you guys got up For adoption. When is the best time to come and look at them.

Jason Ford | Aug 16, 2020
Parrots For Patriots | Aug 16, 2020

Hi Jason! Thank you so much for your question. Every year between November 15th and January 15th we suspend adoptions of our Parrots. We've discovered it's a bad time for a bird to acclimate to a new household during the holiday season. The only exceptions we make are for are veterans, or for a two-person households. The only exceptions we would make is if you are a veteran. If so please visit our website at www.parrotsforpatriots.org and view the available parrots there in fill out one of our adoption applications. We normally get back to you within the same day by 6:00 p.m. Thanks again for your question

Thanks for Asking Patricia! Sorry we can't help you. We no longer are able to take in any poultry (Chickens, Ducks, Geese, pheasants, Peacocks, or Quail. We recommend that you contact one of the many Farm Sanctuaries in our area.

I am considering adopting an African grey, and would like to know the general idea of the cost of the adoption.

Excellent question Harper ! There are a quite a few things that factor into the adoption fees for all of our available parrots. Such as the age of the parrot, the tameness, its cage, the location of the applicant, due to our required home visit and a lot more. But the most important thing is that the parrot likes the applicant. Simply submit in your adoption application from our website (When you’re Ready to adopt), and someone will get back to you. *Be sure to read our requirements to adopt found at the top of our application before you submit in your application. We’ll keep an eye open for your application! -

Is the Northwest bird rescue center still in the same spot as it says or did the store move?

UnicornMacaw Family | Aug 17, 2018
North West Bird Rescue | Aug 17, 2018

NW Bird Rescue doesn't have a store. As of 2005 their facility in foster homes are closed to the public. The listed address is their mailing address. If you're interested in adopting a parrot you must visit their website and fill out an adoption application and someone will give you a call.

how old do you have to be to volenteer?

Sarah Mclain | Aug 17, 2018
Parrots For Patriots | Aug 17, 2018

Thank you for your question Sarah. Our volunteers need to be a minimum of 26 years of age with their own insurance. And it's a bonus for us if you're a veteran.

My umbrella cockatoo recently died. I would like to have another. Our home is really quiet without him. Do you have any cockatoos available for adoption or rehoming or know of anyone who might? I have two large cages. You can call me at 632-6210
