I kept hearing when I come to Kansas City I need to try the Brass Onion. I have to say I absolutely loved the atmosphere and the comfort foods did not disappoint. We loved everything that was served. We ordered the smoked KC jumbo wings, mawmaw's meatballs, the braised beef shirt rib, and the low country macaroni and cheese...the kids had the pizza, pasta with red sauce and the mini burgers. It would have been a perfect experience but the service was kind of slow and I was disappointed how many times I had to remind the server about my food allergy question. Food allergies are life or death for many people and some restaurants really get it right when it comes to being attentive to this...Brass Onion dropped the ball here.

Tried for the first time during restaurant week. Atmosphere was excellent, beautiful interior, bustling but not too loud to converse. They have a great happy hour food and drink menu during the week which we started with. The meal was ordered from the special restaurant week menu so didn't get a chance to check out the full offering but the food we had was excellent and will definitely be back to eat off the full menu.

The Brass Onion is a surprising find. We have been twice and have really enjoyed everything we have tried. The fried chicken meal with 3 pieces of chicken, mash potatoes, corn bread, and an additional side, I get Mac and cheese, is the most perfect fried chicken meal I have ever had. Seriously it may be the meal I ask for before I die, it was that good. We also tried their bone in pork chop dish, another meal that is delicious. I have never had s pork chop that was as soft/tender as that with so much flavor from their brine. Wow. It made a pork chop taste more elegant than the best cut of steak. My wife orders salads and speaks very highly of them here. She also ordered wings this last time and again, we were surprised by the size and flavor. Cocktails are executed well as well and they have crystal clear cocktails ice, which is not very common due to it being complicated and difficult to make. Atmosphere is elegant. They ask for reservations but both times we did not have them and were able to be seated. Would highly recommend The Brass Onion to anyone wanting to have some elevated southern style American dishes. I'm telling you, try that fried chicken!

Overall the service was great. My friend enjoyed her salmon sandwich. Her husband enjoyed his prime rib Reuben sandwich. My mother thought the chicken avocado sandwich was delicious as well. I ordered salmon with vegetables and it was very tasty. However, my sister ordered plain pancakes and while the pancakes were large, the flavor was lacking. Corn meal is added to the batter for sweetness, and she could taste the corn flavor. She did not enjoy the pancakes.
