We loaded up the family last and hauled our vintage Airstream to Bayfield last weekend to enjoy the area. Leading up to the trip all sites at Apostle Islands Area Campground were reserved, so we hoped to snag a spot at the town campground near the lake, but upon arrival all of the sites were taken. Fortunately we were not far from Apostle Islands Campground and decided to drop by to see if anything opened up. We rolled in shortly after 6pm and were greeted by a friendly group who informed us there was indeed a spot, number 77, available. We didn't know it at the time, but it turns out we were talking to the owner. That explains why he knew so much, and was so friendly. The spot was in the recently opened new section of campground and was quite lovely. We overlooked Lake Superior in the distance. The spotless bathroom facilities were a short walk from our site, as was the enticing swimming pond. Our kids didn't get a chance to enjoy the swimming pond, but when we return next time I know they'll thoroughly enjoy it. We plan to visit Bayfield again in the future and when we do Apostle Islands Campground will definitely be where we stay. The facility is nice and the staff even nicer.

What a GREAT place to camp! We had a total blast and the campground is super nice. All of the grounds and sites are well maintained and the amenities (showers, bathrooms) were always clean and nice. Highly recommend staying here if you are in the Bayfield area.

Having stayed in numerous unique places to celebrate our anniversary “milestones” over the years, I was looking for yet another one this year for my wife and myself. We got just that and more with the Covered Wagon Rental in the Apostle Islands Area Campground. The secluded aspect, while still a part of the campground, made it a PERFECT “hunker down & relax” destination. Offering a little refrigerator and microwave, the Covered Wagon afforded us many opportunities to stay in and enjoy our own cooked meals from its wagon wheel themed table. The site also has its own fire pit for cooking, roasting marshmallows/s’mores or just enjoying a crackling fire while underneath a starlit night. Another great amenity is that the Coveted Wagon offers not only its own toilet and sink area, but a very functional shower as well. Owners Zach and Jennifer are such wonderful hosts. We were made to feel welcomed AND appreciated. It felt like we’ve known them for years. 5 Stars, in my humble opinion, isn’t enough for this unique destination rental opportunity.

We stayed 3 nights in Cabin 2. We had a wonderful stay. The cabin area, bathrooms and the entire camp ground were very well maintained and clean/inviting. We have 4 kids and did set up an air bed on the floor in addition to the provided bunk beds to sleep everyone. Our kids really enjoyed the playground and every night the other kids from the campground gathered there to play gaga ball. They didn’t want to leave! Quiet hours after 10 pm were respected and enforced. It was very peaceful. The camp store is cute and well stocked with everything you’d need. Our kids went for ice cream daily. Wood and ice are readily available all hours. The showers and washer/dryer are coin operated so bring quarters if you plan to use those. The bugs were not bad at all either! We would highly recommend. They are working on adding to the campground and we look forward to returning to see the outcome!

We have 6 adults and 4 children and 1 travel trailer. Can they all be on one site . Or is there a extra charge for 2 adults?

I only paid for trailer, not number of people. Should be OK but may want to call or check their website.

We have a new 42 foot fifth wheel. Is there campsites large enough for this size and are the roads to your park easy access without scraping the camper with tree branches? If that makes sense. Also do you have water and electrical hookup (50 amp).

Mary Hamilton | Dec 14, 2020
Zach Krivoshein | Dec 15, 2020

Yes, we have several full hook up 30/50 AMP sites to accommodate your length. We also trim back our trees to keep roadways open. Thanks and hope to see you in the future!

Dog Friendly? Nice trails close to walk dogs?

CINDY HUNT | May 13, 2020
Kurt Nesgood | May 14, 2020

Yes they allow dogs with all the usual rules about keeping them under control and picking up after them. There are lots of roads to walk them on and not much traffic. Plenty of parks in the area to take them to also.
