Sailed in ahead of a storm and they were able to accommodate us last minute. 😁

Campground is nicely placed. The staff is super kind and helpful and very accommodating. The only reason for the 4 star rating instead of 5 star is the lack of free showers and very odd placement of potable water pumps. The showers are timed-pay showers located on the edge of the campground. They are separate from the restrooms which seem to be part of the National Lakeshore station and not the campground. There is a second set of toilets (pit style) for the campground, they are located in the complete opposite side of the camp, closest to the single tent sites.

This is a small campground located next to Lake Superior. It's very quiet and off the beaten track as you have to drive north of Bayfield to get there. There is a National Parks Service office located at Little Sand Bay and a nice beach for swimming. Showers costs about $1.

Lake Superior is beautiful. Little Sand Bay is nice for putting a boat or kayaks out to water. No hiking or biking trails of any kind. We walked our dogs on the road. The campsites were tightly spaced, but everyone was respectful and quiet. We purchased firewood in the campground. The wood was wet, so no fire for us. 😔 Little swim beach that was nice and Sandy. Overall very clean. Some interesting story boards about the lives of people and their lives who lived in this area in the late 1800's/early 1900's. Go & enjoy! Life's to short to waste!

Check with the town of Russell. They run the campground. It's about 2.5 hours from Duluth.
$30 work electricity
Fireworks in Bayfield and on Madeline island. Good show as they stagger their start times
