Get Going
I’m in a regular at Cowlitz county gun range safety there is awesome. The RSO explains rules and new rules very clearly this is great. The issue I have is problems with 3 of the RSO like to nit pick especially if you’re the only shooter on the handgun side. I’ve been there when handgun range is full and everyone is being safe and one of the 3 RSO will get nit picking or yell and puff out his chest yes he is short and fat. every time I go it’s something new from one of the 3 RSO. the rest of the RSO are cool but they are also starting to do the same thing. Worse now they can’t stop helping themselves from telling you how to shoot and what you’re doing wrong even when I’m getting a 1 inch group at ten yards and pull a shot it happens. Please get over yourself a and leave people alone unless they ask for help or doing something against rules. I go to shoot not socialize please let me shoot in peace. Also I’m hearing the same complaint from lots of people and they won’t come back. I’m thinking about not going back. I will give one more chance. Please get ride of the chips on you’re shoulders like you’re better than everyone else it’s bad thank you

Very clean and well kept. Son shoots more than me and is so impressed he said he will never go to another range again. He will drive the hour because it's so worth it.

My dad and my nephew took me here yesterday to learn how to shoot my pistol. It was my first time to a gun range and I didn’t know what to expect. I ended up having a blast! I felt safe and I really enjoyed the staff. They were helpful and friendly and really fun to talk with. And Shooting was fun!

Sorry, no. No tracers, incendiary or similar cartridges, and no Tannerite type reactive targets. And for shotguns, slugs only on the rifle range. Trap loads only on the shotgun range ( 7 1/2, 8, or 9 size pellets).
We consider rapid fire to be anything faster than one per second. It is allowed within range officer discretion after a shooter demonstrates control and accuracy at the slower rate.
Yes, but we do have some additional safety procedures for black powder shooters. You can find them on our website cowlitzshootingrange.com Basically, no open powder or primer containers left out on the shooting position and top off the chambers with a wad or bore butter to prevent chain fire.
$13 per day is the standard adult fee.
We are a public range, part of the county parks department, so we don't have memberships. Everyone is welcome. The rifle range is 300 yards.
We don't schedule the hunter education classes. They are done by the state instructors. You should look at their website - https://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/huntered/courses.html
No.
The shooting range is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday. Times of operation vary from day to day, but you can view them from Google Maps.
As a public range we don't have memberships. We do offer the annual pass for $70, which covers the range access fee. The county fees still apply. See www.cowlitzgameanglers.com for complete information.
Yes. Reduced hours 10 am - 4 pm.
There is a bulletin board with classes posted, as well as the range master is a certified instructor
The range does not have classes scheduled specifically for that purpose for the upcoming year at this time. Classes of that nature were done in the last part of this year (2017).
In Washington state formal training is not required but is well advised. Oregon, among many other states do require some form of training. You should visit those state's websites for information about their specific requirements.
