A wonderful little camp ground steps away from the ocean. Ponies come into the sites frequently. Showers are cold water only and toilets are non flushing outhouse style

I drove by looking for wild horses. It seems like this area is where they hang out. Unfortunately I didn't see any, but I didn't realized people camp in tents here!! Not just in RV. Great idea!! There are very roomy restrooms in each area. Note, the toilets are not flushable. Just a toilet with a huge hole. I'm posting a picture I look by the beach to give you an idea how the toilets look.

One of the best oceanfront camping spots around. Beautiful beaches and great surf. The wild horses make it unique... Just don't leave your food out.

This is the spot my family occupates for two weeks every summer for the last 15 years. It's the closest spot to the bathrooms and faucets without excessive sand. The only down side is that the winds occasionally blow the porta potty smell into your site. Only lasts for a few seconds, and hey, that's camping! Assateague is an incredibly special place, and this is the best campsite available. Be ready to book 6 months in advance at 10:00EST ON THE DOT!

If you search Oceanside campground in recreation.gov you'll be able to see pictures of available sites and make reservations
Yes, there are both back in and pull thru spots available. As other have noted, there are no hookups nor is there any hot water. There are cold water showers. Its a nice park, but it can get crowded, hot, and buggy. Weekdays are better than weekends. Ocean City is about 20 minutes from the park. Be aware that there is an entrance fee for the park in addition to the camping charge. The entrance pass is good for a week (last time I checked). The State Park has more amenities, but it fills up get quickly. An alternative to both would be Pocomoke River State Park. There you have shade, a nice swimming pool, and great kayaking. There are hookups, laundry facilities, a camp store, and hiking trails. It is about 1/2 an hour south west of OCMD. If you have kids, this might be a better choice, as beach camping can be brutally hot at times.
