Thoroughly enjoyed it! My family needed a break. So we came to Sugar Mountain for a long weekend. We are first time snowboarders, so I appreciated that the instructor was patient and helpful. I got plenty of opportunities to stare up into the beautiful North Carolina sky. But all in all we had a great time. An added bonus is night tubing. It was a great "last night" experience. A laid back vibe, and not overtaxing for newbies who have been broken (but not injured) by an introduction to snowboarding.

I’ve been to a lot of ski resorts and this place seems to offer decent skiing and good tubing with pleasant staff. However, there are several terribly frustrating things you have to deal with. First, parking is terrible. The parking attendants direct you up the mountain, but 1/4 mile up there was a large digital sign that said “Parking Lot Full” and the attendants on the mountain would just say “sorry”. So now you’re stuck in traffic that doesn’t move with no where to go. Lots of people had the same issue we did with some driving around for over an hour. My wife drove back down the mountain while I stood in line for tubing only to finally find a shuttle and sit in bumper to bumper traffic for another 30 minutes. Also, parking attendants on the mountain told us and several other people (we had a lot of time to chat in line)there wasn’t a shuttle system available, but clearly there was. Not sure if this was an independent system though. Then, you have to book ski lessons and at least tubing in person and by archaic rules (ski lessons must be booked by the afternoon/evening the day before and tubing is booked an hr before) and with unnecessary, inefficient and excessive lines. We had fun tubing in the 1 hr 45 min window they give you, but I waited 5 hrs in 20 degree temps missing the 12 and 2pm tubing times while waiting in line. We will not be coming back unless these things are changed. They need to allow booking online so people can plan a nice trip and not waste their time off standing in ridiculous lines. A simple walk through any of these lines would yield numerous ideas from patrons about how to improve the system.

My best friend and I drove from Florida to snowboard in North Carolina the middle of January. We stayed on the mountain to hit up Wolf Ridge but decided to take an 1 1/2 drive over to Sugar Mountain. It had been 15+ years since I had been there. Well worth it. Easy slopes for beginners, and fun runs for those that have experience. We brought our own gear however they have everything you need there. Sugar Mountain employee's are super accommodating and helpful. Highly recommended and reasonable lift tickets. Will be back soon. Thanks for keeping it real SM 🏂

I hope this isn't too harsh. I just didn't have a good experience. I thought it was unorganized. Lines stretched into the streets and made it difficult to see if a line was heading to a ticket or rental booth. We showed up to the location around 1PM and we're in line until 4PM where we were told to come back at 5PM to buy tickets for entry at 6PM. 10-15 minutes after they reopened at 6PM, there was a power outage which lasted around 1 hour. It wasn't great since people were still on the lift, the dark hill is risky for people mid-run, there wasn't any announcements, and entry for us was only for 4 hours. The food was fine and seating was fine. The people working were pretty friendly. I still had some fun snowboarding for a little but after all the time and money spent, the whole experience felt sour. I'd like to give it another chance! For now though, I'd recommend seeing your other options.

As long as the temp is below freezing. They make snow
There should be. But if there isn't snow on the ground, if you're hitting the Sugar Mountain Resort, they have an artificial snow maker that keeps the slopes going the whole time. So you'll still be able to ski or snowboard. But I would assume it will be snowing around that time anyway.
