I just got off the phone with an employee named Sarah. We had called to get information on what may have been a vehicle sales scam (turns out it's not), and she could not have been more helpful, informative, or friendly. While I'm writing this review, we have lived here for 18 months. The limited interaction we've had with DMPD has been great...quick response to neighborhood disturbance (noise) call, and I've even had officers chat out the window as they're driving by (I was out weeding or something). There seems to be plenty of police presence in general that I've seen. There is a lot of disdain for law enforcement (some warranted, lots not)...I think it's important to call out the good stuff too.

Des Moines police completely let us down. While having a situation with my neighbor, I had to make multiple calls to the Des Moines‘s police department in which not one time did they ever leave with me feeling safe. It came to a point where My daughter and myself were in so much fear but I had to leave my home and sleep in my car until we saved money and found new housing. Instead of helping they laughed at the situation. And I mean literally stood outside with my neighbors and laughed at me in my face while my daughter was having a full-blown anxiety attack because of what she had just seen and knew that she could not count on the police to keep us safe .My murder would’ve been on their hands but to them it was just a joke. It took me seven days to have a court date for a restraining order and then once the restraining order was granted Des Moines’s police refused to help me serve it to my neighbor that had spent every day of the last month harassing me. They did not take the fact she was on mood stabilizers and drinking and how dangerous she was. 5 months later and I have extreme PTSD. I moved 45 minutes away and still don’t feel safe because the order was never served. So thank you so much Des Moines police for not believing me even though I had EVERYTHING on tape including me physically getting attacked but choosing not to help because the suspect claimed this was “because she’s black” they care more about how they look in the public guy been saving a 12-year-old little girl and her single mom. I’ve tried to ask how to file formal complaints and never a received phone call back. If I could give a 0 star I would. Also I’m a tax paying citizen who pays for the help of my local police department the woman who they defended rather than me lives off of welfare and Washington state so congratulations you guys fit the stereotype. Also I’m a tax paying citizen who pays for the help of my local police department the woman who they defended rather than me lives off of welfare and Washington state so congratulations you guys fit the stereotype

Why in the world would you hire the ex-police chief of kent? He ran that department into the ground and gave it the worst reputation in king county...you guys want the same? SMH. Des moines actually had a decent police force before this.

Officer Savage responded to a break in, on our apartment. What a blessing. She was so understanding towards my devastated wife, and made a terrible experience as good as she could. She laid out a plan of action and what we needed to do, and when I found some items at a nearby pawn shop, she was there before we even arrived. I hope she has been recognized as the outstanding officer she was. Thanks for all your help!

The animal control officer may be able to help. Call the police department and select the option for animal control.
This isn't really a question about the Des Moines Police Department as much as it is a question for them. You should call the police and ask your question. 206-878-3301
