Lake was really nice! Nice short hike. <Road to the tailhead is really bad big drips in the road especially hard when people park on both sides of the road😨>

Not too crowded for a Sunday. Enjoyed the peace and quiet of the forest and lake at the top. Only thing I wish would be improved was the mountain road to get up to the parking lot. Super full of potholes. I was able to make it up fine with my tiny car, but I also drove very slowly and carefully.

1. Plenty parking in early Dec sunny Sunday 2. Was partly icy and rocks were slippery so I would suggest you carry spikes and poles. Good waterproof boots must with good traction 3. Took me around 4 hours total with 30 mins rest at average pace 4. Lots of potholes so high clearance advised 5. Lake was half frozen. We took a loop around it. It was a winter wonderland and simply beautiful.

Amazing experience. The trail is a little tough due to elevation gain and some sections can be challenging due to negotiating footing but it is not dangerous in terms of cliffs or drop-offs. It is well worth the effort because the Heather Lake is extremely scenic. On a clear day it rivals the beauty of any hike in the Cascades. The road to the trailhead does require 4x4 or AWD as the potholes are deep. My only issue is that on busy days you will have to deal with people driving too fast on a road that is in horrible condition. If you do not have a 4x4 just park at the start of the access road and walk up the gravel road about a half mile or so.

Can I use the discovery pass to park here?

On WTA the hike is marked as kids friendly, but I don't think its that easy for kids. That being said, your 7 year old should be fine. There's a lot a big rocks that you will have to pass in the last half mile or so, thus he will need some help there from you, but otherwise it should be ok.

I logged 4.3 miles on my hike there last year but i did not walk around the lake. It's a relatively easy hike. Enjoy
