I can’t believe most people already go back to work and these employees still don’t open the permit office to public. I dumbfounded when the elevator did not go up the 20th floor. Later I found out through security that I have to find everything through online and by phone. Seriously? Doctor offices, restaurants and other places are already open and these employees refuse to do so. I am mad that my tax money paying for these people. They can install shield, require masks etc and a lot of questions can be answered easily in person. What kind of city Seattle has become?

THERE IS NO ONE TO CALL FOR QUESTIONS. EMAILING BACK AND FORTH FOR DAYS, WEEKS, MONTHS ON ENDS IS NOT A GOOD WAY TO HANDLE BUSINESS AT ALL.

On July 26, 2021 I filed 8 valid complaints of safety issues here at my apartment building. Ex; All elevators inoperable. Non ambulatory trapped above main floor. Pencil whipped. Closed. No corrective action. Those needing dialysis trapped!!! unable to receive medical Services.

I googled "how long does it take to get a building permit in Seattle" the answer is 2 weeks. FALSE- I have a building permit ready to be submitted for MONTHS now and they are so unclear on directions, where to turn it in, who is my assigned project person. Nothing is moving and now they are saying I need to schedule online and guess when their next opening is? END OF AUGUST. This place is a joke. I'm going in tomorrow to talk in person and figure out who the manager is because this entire departments favorite answer is "I dont know". What are they getting paid to do?

On a lot that allows tandem housing, can these be separately owned? thanks

Sacie Lambertson | Aug 13, 2022
William M | Aug 14, 2022

Hello Sacie, true tandem housing would allow for separate ownership, assuming your property is zoned to allow for that residential structure type and that your property can meet all of the development standards, but if you are referring to a "backyard cottage", "mother-in-law" type Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) or Detached Accessory Dwelling (DADU) Unit than the answer is no. City council is pushing to reform how ADU's and DADU's are regulated so stay tuned to those changes. If this answered your question please give it a thumbs up, also check out our business www.nwpermit.com

Are there any rules about the size of gravel ( or larger sharper rocks in this case) that can be dumped in a gravel alley. A builder up the street decided to dump a load of larger sharper rocks instead of the smaller “gravel” in the alley! Not right

Kristi Johnson | Aug 13, 2022
William M | Aug 14, 2022

Hello Kristi, if the alley is a public right-of-way (ROW) designated alley than yes there are standards for the gravel used, compaction, slope etc. in those alleys, and most alleys are public ROWs. Additionally, placement of gravel would require 1 or more permits from Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) such as a Street Improvement Permit (SIP) and Construction Street Use Permit. If this answered you question please give it a thumbs up. Also, check out our website, www.nwpermit.com

I would like to find the name of the architect who designed a particular building because it has features I am interested in. Does SDCI have recorded documents that would have that information? The building is the Creston Point Apartments.

Hello John, Yes, SDCI has a Records department where you can search for Building and Land Use records in-person on the 20th floor. You can search online via http://web6.seattle.gov/dpd/edms/, but the availability of some documents is limited. This may be a good tool to identify what permit record is worth looking in to when you arrive in-person. If this was helpful leave a thumbs up. Also, check out our website www.nwpermit.com

What's the best strategy for a short wait time in getting some help on a permit?

Marsha Hedrick | Aug 13, 2022
William M | Aug 14, 2022

Hello Marsha, just like Seattle traffic the lines at SDCI are kind of unpredictable. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30AM can be the worst time as SDCI opens late on those days, and at that time exactly, so people who showed up early are already waiting in line before the doors open. If this was helpful leave a thumbs up. Also, check out our website www.nwpermit.com.
