For a time I experienced homelessness. It was a dark time in my life and I was living in my car. I "lived" in a parking lot in Fishers where it was quiet and I felt safe enough to sleep. I also have experienced mental health problems that contributed and compounded my struggles. Through my lens, which I understand may be unique, I found the Fishers police department to be a fine group of professionals who care about their commmunity and whom are able and willing to do the right thing and abide by the standards of a law enforcement officer. Most of the time (90% or so) I was treated with kindness, respect, and concern, and the Officers understood I was just trying to sleep. I wasn't loitering, making noise, doing suspcious things but because I was sleeping in a car, I became used to the sound of a tap of a flashlight or baton on my window. Almost every encounter I was offered resources and help and I do believe had I not have extenuiating circumstances that required me to live indepedent of a shelter I know they would have helped me find shelter / safety/ food ect. On occasion I would be treated was a nusiance. Not with malice, but with the sort of "the rulebook says' sort of an attitude, that would often lead to me driving tired as I tried to find a differen't place to sleep. In these moments I felt annoyed because I was trying so hard to get by and felt like I couldn't catch any breaks. I Also see the Fishers police department being very active in the community and being part of the downtown culture and overall vibrancy of Fishers. I'm sure some will complain about speeding tickets and quotas and all those things that suburbian police get blamed for. I have lived in Fishers since 2011 and I was pulled over one time, for going 10 over in a school zone, It was a valid pullover even if it was technicality. I've since been more aware of school zones as they are many in the Carmel and Fishers area. The fishers PD also has a public phone that you can use for assistance at any time. I am happy they are located near my business and it makes me feel safer.

WORST POLICE DEPARTEMENT AND OFFICERS I EVER SEEN MY SISTER IN INDIANA FACING LOTS OF PROBLUMES.HER HUSBENDS IS ABUSING AND BEETED HER MANY TIMES SHE HAD PROTECTIONS ORDER FROM CORT AS WELL SHE DID MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT HER HUSBENDS HE STOLEN HER DOCUMENTS FROM HER CAR,NOW HE STOLEN HER CAR AS WELL SHE IS ALONE IN USA AND RUNING HERE AND THERE WITH YHER SON BUT POLICE DID NOTHING ACCEPT WRITING A COMPLAINT WHAT KIND OF SYSTEM IS THERE WHO CANNOT PROTECT ONE LADY WRIGHTS WHEN SHE IS FACING DOMASTTIC VIOLANCE SO DISPOINTED BY FISHER POLICE DEPARTMENT I RESPECT A LAW AND THE USA POLICE DEPARTMENT THE MOST.BUT NOW WE ARE HOPELESS.

these cops will do anything to meet their quota. like create 30 car pileups on dangerous roads (cumberland) just to hand out a speeding ticket. there’s mulpitple neighborhoods within 20 yards they could have pulled into to handle the situation.4 cars had to turn around because of how long it took…be smarter.
