This one star is for the front desk workers, they are always wonderful! I've been coming here my whole life and it gets more and more disappointing as time goes on. The locker rooms are dated, the only shower that isn't ice cold is the handicap one. Speaking of ice cold, it's impressive that they can keep the pool right above freezing. If you aren't swimming laps, good luck spending more than 30 minutes in that ice bath. My son finishes his swim lessons and is shivering even with a wetsuit. I'm pretty sure the reason this pool has stuck around for so long is because it's the only option. I'd rather swim in any other body of water for free, at least it would be warmer.

I have gone to the Fidalgo Pool since I was a child. And as an adult we have two birthday parties for our children there. I have many memories there however, it has gone downhill greatly. First of the staff is the rudest set of people I have encountered just about anywhere, from the manager to the lifeguards. Not just to me but I have had multiple people report this. Next level rude! Secondly the place is just not up to the standards that it used to be, it is dingy, old, and falling apart. Do yourself a favor and go to the new YMCA in Mount Vernon, or the pool in Lynnwood or Snohomish. You will be happy you did.

Parents should be aware that the "life guard" is useless walks by kids staring into space. When observing swimming lessons one mother had to yell out from the balcony that her daughter had slipped off the table into the water and no one noticed until she yelled down. My child was put in a class that had children who were advanced swimmers when I made it clear my child knew nothing about swimming. The two female swim instructors spent more time taunting, teasing, and insulting a youth with high behavior needs. I could often overhear both of them telling the child he was "evil" or "mean" then laughing at him. I timed each class and It was over 15 minutes every time with one kid. Whoever is in upper management needs to do a complete overhaul of the staff who interact with the kids. I would also suggest staff who work with the kids have some basic skills and working knowledge, or plain common sense when interacting with kids who have high needs. No wonder you do not want parents or guardians down by the pool. Person answering the phone and greeting people was polite and helpful

Front desk staff was very polite. Lifeguard never noticed when a kid went under. The swim instructors, have no clue how to manage kids who have issues. They spent over half the class talking or laughing at his horrible behavior. Which encouraged him to misbehave more. This resulted in one kid getting essentially getting a private lesson. While the others who were there to learn and listen lost out. They made little effort to assist other kids who needed some one on one help It was very disappointing.
