1st, you will need a high clearance vehicle; lots of potholes, And it takes about 40 minutes to get To the trail head from the Verlot ranger station. This Hike is listed as hard, and it's not kidding (elevation, hiking on rocks) but the payoff at the top is mind blowing. Bring lots of water. There are no good water sources are sources after the 1st half mile. Staying overnight in the lookout tower is 1st come 1st serve basis, and I've done it a handful of times.Sleeping in a hammock tied to the rafters as much better than sleeping on the hardwood floor (and occasional mice visit). On a good day you can see Mount Rainier, mount Baker, and glacier peak, 3 of Washington's 5 volcanoes from this incredible vantage point.

Mount Pilchuck is a very rocky, pretty steep 5.6 mile hike with an awesome reward of a 360 degree view. On a clear day, you can see Mt Rainier, Mt Baker and Puget Sound. The road up to the trail head is very rough but if you have higher clearance 4wd, you'll be fine.

Awesome views on a clear day! Do this hike. You will not regret it. Just come early as the parking lot fills up fast and be prepared for 5 + miles of REALLY bad gravel road. (the last 2 miles are old pavement....)

Beware the 6 miles of road that leads up to the trail. There are potholes that will break your car axle. The trail itself was difficult. It took my twice as long to complete than I originally planned. A very steep climb with poles highly recommended. I attempted a sunrise hike but miss by an hour. The hike was gorgeous and provided lots of amazing views. The top of Mt. Pilchuck was Drop. Dead. Gorgeous. It's a must see.
