I am unfamiliar with the historic background of the cottage, but I'll never forget the adjacent live oak tree. I hope to to see it again, someday. Lichgate in general is a welcome reprieve from the busier Tallahassee. It can be difficult to believe it's not that far from Tennessee St.

I love bringing my kids to this iconic Tallahassee naturescape!!! Believed to be one of the oldest trees in Florida, the Lichgate gate tree is a gorgeous natural phenomenon with 3+ acres to explore😍

Very beautiful grounds owned by a private trust allowing visitors from sunrise to sunset. Ancient sprawling live oak tree and 20th century cottage built with 18th century reclaimed wood surrounded by quaint gardens. Perfect place for a wedding or a simple picnic. Entrance is easy to miss and parking is available for less than a dozen cars.

how old is the lichgate oak?

Very nice specimen...this oak would also be referred to as the angel oak because of the large limbs reaching to the ground...the reason for this is support for the weight of the tree...they estimate the tree at 172 years old but oaks that size are more likely 300 plus years...go and enjoy the park and the tree...very peaceful and also a family of redtail hawks reside there and make appearances hunting right before your eyes
