For me, I called an insurance agent when I was at the dealership. The dealership won't let you take the car on the road unless it has been insured. If you buy it from someone else (like a friendly, etc) I assume it has to be the same process. Just find a company you'd like to insure the car with and they'll connect you with the right agent. I recommend Eli from Geico Rockville, MD. He's very helpful.
