My Mom came to Sequoia the last day of November 2021 All of the staff members were aware that Mom had dementia. We were assured they had many residents with dementia and they could give appropriate care. That is not what happened. We asked for the “care costs” from Pam director of wellness and were given a quote of appropriate $350 per month. Several months later those care cost went up 420%!!! However, on May 3rd 2022 and I quote; Pam wrote “I am sorry you feel that my moms name has declined since moving into our community. In our observation she has not had major decline in relation to how she was and her needs for support from when she moved in and got settled.” Well then why the huge increase in care cost? Just to make more $$$ Following is a the short list of concerns: (there is a longer list) *Medication: twice my mother was given her full month supply of medication, she called me to ask where her pill boxes were. We were paying them to manage her medication. *Food: on the day of my visit she was served, in a styrofoam container in her room, a chili dog with tater tot’s and re-boiled frozen vegetables. Mom called because she was so hungry, apparently they forgot to reminder her it was dinner time. She had a candy bar for dinner. During a visit from family the waitstaff mentioned that mom had barely eaten anything in 2 weeks 2 days later she was at urgent care. 7 days later she died. *Housekeeping: her bed had only a bottom sheet, mattress pad was in closet, top sheet is still missing. Her bathroom smelled strongly of urine, it was the bath mat that clearly has not been washed, ever. Her laundry was to be done on Sundays. She left on Monday evening and there was more than one week of clothes in the hamper, this was a continuous issue. *Security: 6pm I walked in the front door and there was literally nobody around. The lobby lights were off. I never saw a staff member, but I walked through the whole building. My mother left at 6pm to go to urgent care, nobody noticed she was gone until much later. My Mother DIED exactly 2 weeks AFTER Pam The director of wellness wrote that she had seen no decline. One of those weeks she was in the hospital. When admitted she was anemic, had a severe UTI and pneumonia. She died May 17, 2022

I feel very fortunate to work for such a supportive and safety conscious company. To say this has been a challenging year for residents, families, and staff would be an understatement. I give five stars to my management and ownership for making sure we have the information, policies, and practical tools we need to keep our residents safe and well cared for during this pandemic.

The Sequoia was the perfect situation for my parents when it was necessary for them too move to assisted living, well into their 80s. They received attentive care, yet privacy and decision-making autonomy. Really good food with delightful table mates. The common areas at the facility were always very clean, tidy, and fresh smelling. Our parents were both accomplished gardeners and were encouraged to use the greenhouse as much as they wanted, and they did! They grew flowers and vegetables in the gardens and pots throughout the grounds, especially the courtyard. Mother, Jessie, especially enjoyed the bus rides to see the autumn colors. Medical support brought us all relief, as we knew their needs were being met. The staff was completely outstanding, and I can’t praise them enough! In the final days for each of our parents, the nursing staff was tender, thorough, quietly competent in every effort. And they showed tremendous concern for us family members who were there as my parents each passed. It was an extraordinary, peaceful, even joyful time to have our parents receive such great care at the end of their very long lives. Beth Somerton Young

My mother is here. Apartments do not have individual heat/cool control so rooms on upper floor are too hot in summer. Families are required to provide cooling. Suggest selecting a facility with updated apartments. As with all facilities, staff is in constant turnover.
