What is the difference between psychotherapy and life coaching?

Coaching is about moving forward, psychotherapy is about the past and is based upon the medical model of counseling that is insurance driven. Coaching provides for an effective working relationship that is adaptable for each client; depending upon individual goals, time constraints etc. For example, some clients may already have a direction in mind, whereas others are starting from square one with a dream in mind. Thought-provoking questions are applied to discover what it is that you want to change, improve, or add to your life – personal or professional. Creating and developing your individual strategy occurs as we uncover your desired outcome and goals. With a well-developed strategy with detailed direction, we have begun the journey of coaching! Implementing the strategy involves action steps where you will find the gold. Some action steps may involve breaking down negative self-talk and creating empowering new concepts. All services provided as Transformational Life Coaching, not to be confused as psychotherapy. Trained as a *counselor -therapist I've found Transformational Coaching to be a step beyond traditional therapy to a higher level of functioning. Taking into consideration the "holistic approach" (whole person) incorporating mind, body, and spirit. Holistic approaches are completely up to the individual; choosing one or more healing methods to meet your needs and desires, offering encouragement, support, and knowledge! Services not suitable for Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
