Questions & Answers

Is it safe to spray a Hybrid vehicle?

Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021
Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021

Most manuals for Hybrids specifically state no rust proofing is to be applied. This is due to the fact that most rust proofing products are designed to leave a heavy coating. These coating type products can cover the sensors underneath and actually lead to safety risks for technicians working on the vehicle. Krown leaves only a light oily residue that is designed to displace moisture and slow the corrosion process. Krown has a dielectric strength of 40000 volts, meaning it is non-conductive and will not have any impact on the electrical system. We have been spraying hybrids for a long time and treat many of them on an annual basis. From a body structure perspective, they follow our standard application process.

Can you treat vehicles that are already rusty?

Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021
Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021

Both new and used vehicles are susceptible to rust and our product works on both. Krown is absorbed into existing corrosion and pushes out any moisture, thus slowing any further corrosion down significantly.

How often should I “Krown” my vehicle?

Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021
Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021

To ensure that your vehicle is adequately protected, it is essential to have it treated every year. Especially these days when extremely aggressive road chemicals are in use for de-icing our roads, make sure you come in for a treatment every year.

Why do you drill holes into parts of the car? Will the holes rust?

Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021
Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021

Certain areas of the vehicle that are susceptible to rust can only be accessed by drilling small holes in key areas. These holes allow us to properly spray your vehicle with our tools. These holes are treated with a special wax compound in order to prevent rust, and then covered with an appropriate plug to leave a clean, professional finish.

Can I wash the underside of my vehicle after treating it with Krown?

Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021
Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021

We recommend giving the product a couple days to creep and move into harder to reach areas before washing the underside. We suggest avoiding hot water, degreasers, or high-pressure wash. These will over time reduce the life span of the effectiveness of the product. Ideally, cleaning the underside once or twice a year with Krown Salt Eliminator is our suggested best practice. This product is designed to work in conjunction with our rust inhibitor and will remove salt without negatively impacting the rust protection.

When is the best time of year to have my car sprayed?

Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021
Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021

If your vehicle has never been protected, then the best time to spray it is right now. From a corrosion point of view, the corrosion process is most active in the spring and summer months due to the increase in temperature. However, an annual application of Krown, regardless of the time of year it is applied in, will provide 12 months of protection against corrosion.

How does it work?

Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021
Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021

The Krown product is sprayed around unpainted metal surfaces all throughout the vehicle, including inside body panels and hard to reach areas. As it contacts metals it lifts moisture off and out of seams. It then continues to repel moisture by creating a moisture resistant bond with the metal. No moisture means no rust!

What if it drips on my driveway?

Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021
Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021

Marks created by Krown that has dripped on asphalt will typically fade away after about 2 weeks. If the driveway is concrete or interlocking brick, your local Krown dealer can provide you with a Krown cleaning product that can remove the stains with very little effort.

What is Krown?

Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021
Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021

Krown is designed to slow down or inhibit corrosion on vehicles. It is a petroleum based product with rust inhibitors containing no solvents. In fact the Krown product is environmentally safe, contains no toxins, is non-flammable, is non-reactive, is non-corrosive, can be sprayed in any weather, remains active, and is not WHMIS controlled.

Does it drip? Why? And for how long?

Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021
Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021

The product must get into the seams and around spot welds to work effectively. It is moisture that causes corrosion, so an effective rust inhibitor needs to be thin enough to penetrate anywhere that water can. After the product has penetrated these areas, the excess product drips off. The majority of the dripping occurs within 24-48 hours with very little, if any, dripping after that point. Don't worry Krown is environmentally-friendly.

Do you wash the vehicle afterwards? Won’t this product wash off?

Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021
Krown Erie | Nov 5, 2021

After your vehicle is sprayed with Krown at one of our locations, your vehicle receives a wash. We are cleaning the excess product off of the windows and painted surfaces where the product is not active. The rust inhibitor itself cannot be removed from the metal with soap and water.
