Recovery from the traumatic experiences involved with being unhoused starts with low barrier housing and community. We're all better off when we lift each other up together without expectations or judgement.

CALL 2-1-1 and ask for info on a) emergency rent help, b) subsidized housing. If current rents are more than 30-40% of your gross income, you will be better off & at less risk of homelessness if you are in subsidized housing. Not just "Low Income" (which can be defined in different ways), but *subsidized*, where you will only ever pay 30% of your gross, whatever it is (or $75/mo min.) Housing Authorities are the biggest sources of subsidized housing, but there are nonprofits that offer it as well. Section 8 is a subsidy program that allows you to rent from a private landlord, but it is more difficult & a longer wait. Try to get on as many housing wait lists as you can as they are all long & you want to maximize your chances of getting called. If you have other household members, apply separately for more chances. If/when someone gets called, they can add the others to their lease. Some Low Income Housing provide apts if you work for them. You can work PT on SSI/SSDI. Good luck!
