I cannot believe the caves are filled in. I was so excited to experience them with my kids. We hike all the way up there and they are gone!!!! So disappointing how the history of this town is destroyed and erased. Our kids will have nothing natural to experience. Such a shame.

Hike close to city. Good for someone with no car. Too bad, I move in when the caves were already filled in. But the overlook of the city is nice especially evening during the sunset. The only minus is trash in smaller caves and flat areas. I get this is not National park with control - but hikers should honor the "leave no trace" rule.

They were filled in because there was a dude living in them and also because abandoned mines pose a public safety risk.
