They were filled in because there was a dude living in them and also because abandoned mines pose a public safety risk.

Apparently people were living in them in some pretty dangerous situations. Don't take this as gospel I didn't hear anything officiall

A homeless man built his 2 story apartment inside the caves. The ceiling was collapsed became dangerous to the public

Crazy in 2010 my friends and I would go up here from sunset and Grand canyon after work and have a small fire make dinner drink a few beers and always joked about one day finding a hobo in there... We used to kinda crawl through it but even back then I recall it being mostly blasted. There was at least one big area maybe 2 but everywhere else inside was, watch your head. Back then Ziggler was where Vegas ended ... Pts gold was basically built on a diet road over there. Crazy how much has changed. Btw we always respected the area and cleaned up after ourselves and buried our little fire every time... Ahh the good old days....
