Our group had an amazing time at the mansion! Everything was absolutely beautiful, the tour was just right, and the app was the perfect addition to our self-paced timing through the building. If I could change anything about our entire experience it is only one silly, rather selfish thing. My favorite part of the entire tour was the signs on the doorknobs throughout the building. Some of them said there was "nothing interesting behind the door", others said that the doors were "tired and couldn't handle being opened anymore due to their age" or stress. If those signs have been available in the gift shop, I would have had to buy every single one to take home with me, and I would have thought about the mansion every time I opened every door in my house for the rest of forever . Instead of bringing home door signs, we picked up some books in the gift shop. Can't wait to read them!

I did the full tour over Easter weekend and I must say this was a lot more interesting and beautiful then I expected. The woodwork/craftsmanship across the property is breathtakingly beautiful. If you are interested in history, beautiful vista's, and amazing craftsmanship I recommend glensheen 100%

Its a nice place! I love this place so much. I dont even like doing the tour and going into the buildings, i just like this place to wander the grounds, its so pretty and well maintained. I've gone twice now (once in the summer and once in the winter) and i love it every time

I would definitely recommend this place for your tourist destination, especially the Christmas tour. The mansion was beautifully decorated with over 25-Christmas trees and it got our family in the holiday mood. We came early on a weekday morning to avoid the crowds and got a personalized self tour taking our time. Glensheen also has a huge amount of local history and the staff is very knowledgable about all things Glensheen I would also recommend going during daylight hours, as the natural sunlight helps to see all the details throughout the mansion. Family friendly, but don't touch anything inside. Our son was an active military member so admission was free for all of us.

The construction of the mansion toke three years, ending in 1908. At the time, it cost the Congdons $854,000 to build Glensheen (estimated $21 Million in today's market).
I don't know about specific hours, but Glensheen has tours year round. Near the end of November they even offer a "Christmas Candlelight" tour :D Check out their calendar here: https://glensheen.org/calendar/category/extended-tour-hours/month/
Yes there is in a building (stable) before you start the tour. Cool stable but gifts leave something to be desired.
They will answer any questions you have but the dont bring up the murders themselves out of respect to the family
My great grandmother was friends with the other night nurse. They decided to switch shifts for that night earlier in the week. She had a hard time accepting that she was supposed to be there instead. Just an extra tidbit I found interesting. My mom remembers Elizabeth. She and my uncle found one of the coffins half way exposed in the yard. They thought it was a shipping box from a boat. So they knocked on the door and she came with them to examine what they were talking about. It ends up the relatives were buried coffin to coffin the long way. They were pushing each other out of each side. So on the other side one had already fallen into the water, another was halfway out of the cliff and decomposing (thankfully they didn't find that side, being they were kids). She had the lawn reconstructed and set them to rest properly. Apparently she was pretty old at this time, so it must have been quite a fright.
There are guided and self tours. If you choose a self tour, there are people in each room to answer questions or give the history of the rooms.
Mother Elizabeth and her nurse where killed , supposedly by daughter Marjorie and her husband but she was not charged for the murder but Roger her husband was.
