I don't know how you could rate this place with anything but five stars! Simon was incredibly helpful when we first picked out the violin for my daughter and when we came back a year and a half later to get strings replaced. He was fast and efficient but took the time to answer any questions we had. Highly recommend this for all of your violin needs!

Great guy. Very knowledgeable. Went above and beyond for my daughter. Would give 10 stars if it would let me. Will definitely go back for future needs

We do not charge for a brief consultation and overview. We'll guide you broadly about origin, value and potential restoration costs, and you can determine the next steps. If we later issue an appraisal for insurance, we do make a nominal charge for that. It's a set fee, not related to the value of the instrument and bows...
Simon is a rare gem this city beholds. He will tell you all you need to get you up and running. You can trust him 100% !!!!
Generally, as Doug stated, just the cost of the strings. However, if it's a lower end student violin, sometimes the peg holes need re-drilling and other issues crop up. If it's quiet in the shop, and the strings that you bring are of sensible quality, we'll usually do this as a courtesy...
Carlos, we don't give lessons but you'll find a good list on my website. Www.mcfiddles.com. It's on the "teachers" page.
Student strings start at $18 per set; they go up in price as you choose more professional brands: Dominants are $64.99; Evah Pirazzi $86 and as Beth suggested, Obligatos are now $90. No charge for installation.
Melanie, they should be here by Wednesday 12th Dec.
Zoie, once a bow is more than 1-2 years old, the worn hair stretches, and the frog can no longer be moved back to tighten. If the bow is much newer, there's a possibility that the plug has come loose inside the frog. If we're lucky we can shorten the hair length with a new plug . If not, a rehair will be the solution...
Sorry! We no longer carry sheet music. Senseney Music is just a few blocks north of us, and carries many school music books.
