Great fishing spot and place to just hang out and chill. No playground but the water isn't too deep so kids can play in it with adult supervision. Pet friendly and restrooms are close to the water

So much trash from fishing. I just wish people/ adults would pick up after them selves. Just use the plastic sack from your purchase as a trash bag.

Our boys and I are out here at LEAST 3 times a week and EVERY SINGLE time we end up having to walk out so many snagged lines to even be able to walk across to the islands to fish. Then once out there; filling 4-8 walmart bags with trash, fishing line, hooks, ECT -before we even get to start fishing. Filling walmart bags that we've found IN THE WATER!😢 I know this place has always been a chosen place for the weekend Wal-Mart fisherman but the laziness has become almost criminal. Being able to fish here is what makes this place so great. If things keep moving in this direction there will be nothing to enjoy. Nothing to fish for........ Lazy has some far reaching implications. Dont ruin this spot because you're too lazy to pick up after yourself. Theres literally a trashcan right at the top of the walkway.

It really depends on how much rainfall we've had in recent days. Its can be waist deep slow moving in the summer and deep fast flowing water in the fall
yes, but mostly you will just find trash and fishing hooks
Ya gotta have a licence to fish unless you're over 65 or a kid. At least on public waters.
There are good places to swim away from the dam. Swimming at lake springfeild is locally frowned upon but this lake feeds the James river which is a great place to swim, but it would also depend on what your level of comfort is with water you can't see in
I've caught smallmouth and rock bass below the damn, on a kayak. Took out at 160 by the Go-Kart track
Yes, make sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp. Makes packing up easier when you're done, as there are no lights whatsoever near the water, only at the parking lot.
