Questions & Answers

is it bad to leave hold on ????

Rick Marshall | Nov 3, 2019

It's not bad - especially not in this extremely cold weather. The reason for thermostat setback programs is for cost savings - allowing it to be colder in the winter and warmer in the summer when you're not home or sleeping will use less electricity and gas. Leaving it on hold is the same as having a non-programmable thermostat and it won't hurt anything other than maybe your Nipsco bill.

what does the program button do--cant find the owners manual

The program button allows you to set your program - the times and temperatures you want on the different days of the week. Which model thermostat do you have? Most manuals are available online here: https://climate.emerson.com/en-us/products/thermostats/thermostat-manuals

cant figure out thermostat--white rogers--we have a hold button, but when pushed, it drops temp to 62 degrees, how do we raise temp?? what is the program for??

If yours is anything like mine, hit the up arrow button and hold it until the numbers on the display start flashing, and then push the up arrow in and out until it gets up to the number you want. Within a few seconds it should stay right there. Not for sure but I think at that point you can even hit the hold button.

I realize that it is super cold, but my 2 year old furnace is only keeping my house at 67 -68 degrees--any solutions other than a weather warm up??

Rick Marshall | Nov 3, 2019

Another heat source (electric heaters) or insulation being added (even putting a blanket over a large window or glass door may help some) can help, but the reality is that properly sized furnaces in our area are not designed to keep your home 70 degrees in -20F weather. Design conditions for our area are Zero degrees which means that below that there is a chance that your furnace may not keep your home at 70 degrees or higher. Thankfully you're able to maintain 67 and the end of this weather is in sight. Make sure your flue stays clear and your filter is clean/new-ish and your furnace should keep doing what it can to keep you as comfortable as possible until the weather breaks.
