I have used the Stone Center for lots of stone over the past two years for our home projects. Yes, we have what is called Torpedo Sand. It is a coarse sand used in concrete and often mix with soil to improve drainage and keep the soil from packing. We sell the sand in bulk so you would need to bring a container to carry it in.
Unfortunately, we do not sell slate. We do sell New York Bluestone which is somewhat like slate but in the greenish tones. The bluestone is natural cleft on both sides so it is not exactly flat and smooth. We can do straight cuts on the bluestone but the tolerance would be +/- 1/8 of an inch do to the hardness of the stone and the size of the saw.
