Our first interaction with Fine was “fine”. Good prices and selection and ordered and picked up without issue. The only negative up to this point was their limited hours, closing at 5 on most days and not open on weekends. The real problem came when my husband came in to buy a lumber for shelving for our carpenter. He inadvertently bought oak plywood instead of lumber strips. Not even 24 hours after picking up the plywood, he returned to exchange for correct product. He was told that the wood was dirty and warped and they would not accept the return. They said it was so bad that it was “un-sellable” and they couldn’t put it back on the floor. It stayed flat in the back of our truck in a garage for that 24 hours so there’s no way it could have warped. It was in the exact same condition that he bought it in. Considering how expensive lumber is, we were very disappointed in their customer service and won’t shop there again. Buyer beware if there’s any chance you may need to return anything, since it’s unlikely they will take it back. I’ve attached a photo of this pristine, non-warped piece of white oak plywood.

This place is so great! I’m a hobbyist carpenter who came from Boston to Austin for 6 days to build a trophy case for a friend. I purchased 280 board feet of walnut (6 in and 8 in widths). I called ahead of time and they sent me a picture of the wood they had in stock so I could confirm that they had plenty to pick through and choose from when I got there. They gave me a quote over the phone that was exactly what I ended up paying. The price was essentially the same as the same quantity/dimensions available at Home Depot, but the quality was much much better, plus Home Depot ships walnut to your house, so the lead time is 2 weeks, where you can pick up in stock items here same day. You also have no ability to quality control direct shipments from Home Depot to your house. Wood was relatively knot free, not a single board was warped, and there were no major gauges in any of the boards and only a few had some small splits on the ends. For this particular project I was looking to avoid the lighter walnut heart wood and I was able to pick and choose darker boards no problem at all. Staff was super friendly and helped bring the wood to our truck with a fork lift. My next project here is a back deck. I will definitely be coming back here for any lumber.
