Slightly rocky start, but overall very happy with the apartment. The unit was squeaky clean, but our washer was not working and a package was stolen. Ron (the handyman) is fantastic though. He spent 2 hours at the end of a Friday doing everything in his power to fix our washer (successfully). Additionally, our package magically reappeared in the package room. It was opened but with everything was inside, which leads me to believe it was taken by mistake. So all's well and good, but still going to be a bit cautious about packages. A few cons: - No A/C, but that seems to be typical in Seattle apartments. - Parking is a bit limited. We're on the waitlist for a spot (fingers crossed) but you might have to get a monthly pass at a UPark or street park for a bit. - Security. If there is going to be a communal package area, then they should make sure it is adequately protected.

I am currently in the middle of a dispute with Velo and Ray regarding illegal practices related to charges at move-out. Velo and Ray have a policy of billing all residents for painting of the apartments at move out, no matter whether there was any damage or not. We left our unit impeccably clean and filled the very few (<5) holes from hanging art on the wall. Essex billed us for a "full repaint" and stated that all tenants pay a pro-rated share of the cost to repaint the unit. This is illegal and improper billing. Essex is only able to charge if you damage the unit and spot painting is not sufficient to restore to the unit to a condition similar to when you moved in. I am pursuing any and all legal action to bring these facts to light and ensure Essex does not continually bill former tenants for their inability to understand their own lease or cover costs. On top of that the unit was disgustingly dirty when we moved in. The light switches were filthy and vinyl floors not "sanitized" as stated. My move-in checklist had so many footnotes in the margins it's not even funny.

Pros -amazing rooftop -nice community rooms with TV's -super close walk to good restaurants and gasworks -gym -nice big windows -fairly new apartment building -super nice maintenance staff Cons -streetlights shine through windows and blinds (blackout curtains recommended) -upper floor apartments get soooooooo warm in the summer, good luck sleeping without an A/C -dog poop around the perimeter (pick up your dogs poop people!) -only one entrance to the building
