This was an interesting stop. Location right next to the ferry is very convenient. They accept donations, but did not demand admission fee.

Nice museum with alot of interesting things. It had alot of maritime history from around the outerbanks. The lens from the second Hatteras lighthouse was very cool. Also loved the gift shop. There was no charge, but they asked for a minimum donation of $5, which was well worth it.

This place is awesome. I learned a lot about how much of a role NC played in WWII and the bravery of the locals. Very interesting exhibits. There is no charge but there is a recommended donation of $5 per. Bump it up if you can, museums are worth the investment.

Our hostess was also the author of the Images of America book "Outer Banks Shipwrekcs- Graveyard of the Atlantic," Mary Ellen Riddle. She was fabulous. The exhibits are engaging and growing! This incredible resource was free, and was well worth the drive.

I found the sign to be inaccurate.

How can I get someone from the museum to contact me? I found a very interesting piece of wood with wooden nails while vacationing in the Outer Banks.

I would Google, and contact, the ranger station at the lighthouse first. They work for the National Park Service. They can help with questions like this and point you in the right direction.

Are small dogs allowed in the museum?

If it’s a piling with a triangle sign, it’s a channel marker. There also are duck blinds out there.

What far is the museum from the ferry landing

The web site is garbage. If you go to the contacts page using your cell phone and CLICK the (INCORRECT) phone number, the correct number is put into your dialer. On a PC just hover over the wrong number and look in the browsers status bar at bottom to see correct number. Entry is FREE with donations accepted.
