When growing up in the sixties there were quite a few mom and pop sporting stores, sadly that is not the case today. Luckily we have big 5 that has some of the feel of a mom and pop operation. I prefer shopping here rather than a mega sports store. The only thing I would like to see is more comprehensive training for the staff so they have better understanding of the equipment they sell and how it is used...

These guys seem like they are on guard with everyone coming in. Then after being looked at like I am a thief, I got to wait at the gun counter for awhile. A little longer.......then I made a suggestion to the guy wrapping up some rifles, to let me just get a box of pellets so I could go. That was like asking to be responsible for the safe, a nuke,and the cure for aids. I wasn't allowed to walk the ammo 6 feet by myself in plain view of everyone. The dude who came over to carry the pellets had been doing nothing up till then, except ignoring me and my money.

I really like Big 5 sporting goods as it is usually in my experience is stocked well. And the employees seem helpful and very experienced in their jobs. Also in most cases the prices seem really good compared to other discounted retainers. I would highly recommend that if you have never shopped here that you take some time to check it out. There are many locations all over the Western United States as I have shopped there in other States. Go there if you need anything sporting goods related.
